About Us
Zimmerman Auto Body Supplies (ZABS) was created as an offshoot business of Glenwood Auto Restoration. As a painter and body shop owner, Ed Zimmerman decided to branch out into selling paint and supplies to the collision industry in 1979. With the technical knowledge gained from 15 years in the industry, Ed was able to quickly grow the business with his hands-on knowledge. Because of the huge growth in paint sales, the need for warehouse space increased for ZABS and Glenwood Auto Restoration was phased out.
As the CARS account base increased and Ed expanded into market segments other than automotive repair, a second location was needed to service the Harrisburg market. So in 1995, Capital Automotive Refinishing Supplies (CARS) was incorporated. More locations spun off this new venture with stores started in York in 2000 and most recently in the Lewistown area in 2006. Zimmerman Auto Body Supplies and Capital Automotive Refinishing Supplies have continued to partner with the shops to keep them on the cutting edge of the industry. Strategic alliances were formed with our suppliers to bring you the best in products, cost of goods, training, information, and services.
In 40 years we have grown to 4 locations and over 70 employees, but we haven’t forgotten our humble roots. We are still a family-owned business that believes in maintaining a personal touch with our customers to build lasting relationships and loyalty.
